The hub

Good seating isn’t guesswork.

It starts with the person—their posture, pressure risks, movement and daily routine. Select the main challenge below to explore suitable seating solutions and manufacturers.

The selector

Five questions. Answer honestly and the seat picks itself.

Answer as the person in the chair, or as the clinician beside it. Out comes the seat, the matched back and the belt that locks it all together — sized, priced, delivery included.

1 · Position

How does sitting look after an hour in the chair?

Presentation drives the base selection. Fixed vs correctable is the clinician’s determination — we convert the stated angle to midline mechanically.

2 · Trunk control and transfers

Two questions that together tell us how involved this is.

Combination score — neither answer is decisive alone. Unsupported sitting plus hoisted transfers indicates the complex end.

3 · Skin

Any history of skin damage over the seating area?

Evidence-led. Air is indicated at high risk or with a history of breakdown.

4 · The day

How long in the chair, and what do you want to be doing?

Exposure duration and participation goals. Activity level drives weight, edge stability and cover choice.
Answer the five questions and your seating comes up here.

Compare wheelchair cushions and back supports

The cushion chart compares postural support with skin protection. The back-support chart compares trunk control with containment. Hover over any point to see the product and price. Colours identify each manufacturer.

Use these charts as a starting point—individual seating should always be selected around the person’s assessed needs.

Cushions — postural support against skin protection.

Backs — trunk control against how much it gets in the way.

ROHO / Permobil — air JAY — fluid Spex — adjustable Axiom — foam engineering

Four Worlds, Four Methodologies, One Outcome — Yours

Four manufacturers, four specialisms. Our standard is to select the cushion and back as one coordinated system, chosen around the person’s assessed needs.

The method

The order matters

Seating goes wrong when key steps are missed or taken in the wrong order. This is the process we follow to assess, select, configure and review each seating solution properly.

Wheelchair seating works as a complete system. We start with the seat and pelvis, add each support in sequence, then check posture, pressure, comfort, function and everyday use together.

Posture and pressure are assessed togetherPelvic position affects where pressure and shear fall. We establish the best achievable posture, then assess pressure distribution and skin risk separately.
The belt is part of the foundationPelvic support is fitted early, not added at the end. Belt position, angle and tension are selected for the individual and the support required.
Discomfort requires reviewNew or persistent discomfort is a reason to reassess. We check fit, posture, pressure, skin, adjustment and any change in clinical need.
Daily life shapes the systemBody size, movement, transfers, propulsion, environment and personal goals all matter. A system that supports posture but unnecessarily restricts function or independence is not the right solution.
One coordinated systemWe select the cushion and back together. Our standard is to use one manufacturer’s compatible seating system, chosen around the person’s assessed needs.
No avoidable delayGood seating may require trials and adjustment. Administration should not slow it down. We hold core products, measure carefully and progress each case without cutting short fitting, testing or review.

Wheelchair cushions and backs are straightforward to measure

Ordering wheelchair cushions and backs comes down to three numbers — width, depth, back height — and a tape measure. We’d rather teach you to get them right than make you wait for an appointment you don’t need. Every product page carries a QR code to a short video for the measurement it needs.
